Replying to Telegram messages straight from the Android notification shade is a handy shortcut, but sometimes you tap send and the chat bubble never appears, or it just keeps spinning. This kind of problem is usually not a banned account, but something off with the notification reply path, the network, or the app state. Below is a troubleshooting order from simple to more involved.
Many people assume the message was not sent, when in fact it already reached the conversation. Open Telegram first and go into the relevant chat to check:
If the message already appears in the conversation and only the notification did not disappear or refresh, then the issue is notification syncing, not a failed send. You can swipe the notification away manually, or check in system settings whether Telegram notification permissions are restricted.
If the message really is not in the conversation, then continue troubleshooting. Note: anything typed in the notification reply box is not automatically saved to the chat draft before you tap send, so the content may be lost after a failure. For important text, copy it first.
Also, notification replies are a shortcut provided by the system, and they depend on the Telegram background process being able to receive and send back data normally. If the system restricts Telegram background activity very aggressively, this shortcut is the first thing to break.
Notification replies and in-app messages use the same network connection, but they are triggered at different times, which can expose network problems.
First confirm the phone currently has usable network: open a browser and visit any web page, or switch to another Wi-Fi or mobile data and try again.
If you use a proxy or VPN, note that the system may temporarily switch networks when a notification reply happens, causing the proxy connection to drop. Open the Telegram app and see whether it shows 「Connecting」 or 「Waiting for network」 at the top. If it shows connecting, wait in the app for the connection to recover, then retry from the notification.
There is another case: battery saver or background data restrictions can freeze Telegram network access while the screen is locked, and notification replies happen exactly in the locked state, so the send gets stuck. Temporarily turn off battery saver, or allow Telegram to use data in the background in system settings, then try again.
Android notification reply implementations differ between manufacturers, and some settings can make replies fail outright.
First, check whether notification channels are set to silent or collapsed. Some systems put certain Telegram notifications into a 「silent」 channel, and quick replies for those notifications may not work. Go to notification management in system settings, find Telegram, and confirm message notifications are not set to silent or minimized.
Second, check whether you accidentally triggered something other than send in the notification reply. For example, the keyboard enter key may be treated as a line break, or the reply box may not really have focus, so tapping send does not actually submit. Pull down the notification again, tap the reply box, confirm the cursor is blinking, then type and send.
Third, confirm the Telegram app itself is not restricted by system 「deep sleep」 or 「automatic management」. In battery or app management, set Telegram as unrestricted, then lock the screen and test a notification reply again.
If you have tried all of the above and still cannot send, do the following in order:
1. Force stop Telegram and open it again, so it rebuilds its background connection. 2. Restart the phone to rule out a stuck system notification service. 3. Confirm Telegram was installed from Google Play or the App Store; third-party modified versions may behave abnormally with notification replies. If you need to update, use the official app store. 4. If notification replies fail only for one contact, test with another contact to judge whether the problem is with that person or that conversation.
After these steps, most notification reply failures can be traced to a cause: either the message was actually sent and only the notification did not refresh, or background network access is restricted. If nothing works, you can open the chat normally in the app to send, and report the behavior to Telegram official support channels instead of relying on notification replies.
